European Animal Liberation Gathering 2018. June 1st-3rd, Bilbao

A place to share practical skills and discuss strategy and tactics for the fight against the oppression of animals and the destruction of their habitats.

We hope to build an effective network of animal liberation groups and individuals across Europe.

There will also be a focus on how we can look after ourselves and each other better to make our movement more resilient against repression and other difficulties that we have to face.

The gathering will be organised using anarchist principles but that does not mean that you have to be an anarchist to attend. The workshops will be translated into Spanish, English and French. If you can help with these translations please contact us in advance.

It would be really useful to know how many people are coming. If you are interested in attending or if you would like to offer a workshop please contact

Main Statement

The European Animal Liberation gathering aims to build a strong militant movement to fight against the oppression of non human animals.

This gathering hopes to connect individuals and small groups of like minded people working for animal liberation, to form a strong effective network, and regain its former strength and direction.

Animal activist groups that lack wider politics are becoming increasingly appealing to people with fascist, right wing and patriarchal views. We will be talking about some examples of this at the gathering and how best to challenge it.

Many people leave our movement either because of repression from police and the state, violence from animal abusers, oppressive behaviour within our groups or just because being involved in the struggle can be really challenging. We want to build a network where we can work collectively to look after ourselves and each other to create a resilient movement.

Anarchism and anti-capitalist struggle is an important part of the fight for animal liberation and that it is only by understanding what is behind the hierarchy and oppression faced by other species that we can effectively challenge it. Many people would not define themselves as anarchist but are still opposed to hierarchy and domestication, we would love for these people to be part of the gathering. It is not exclusively an anarchist space.

We are planning a range of workshops. We think that reflecting on our movement is vital to progress but we also don’t want to spend the whole weekend talking. There will also be some practical workshops where people can share skills. If there is a workshop that you would like to see happen or a workshop that you would like to offer we would love to hear from you.
